What's New in JavaFX1.2: Jim Clarke PDF Print E-mail

JavaFX1.2 was released on June 2 at JavaOne, 2009. Unlike Java, JavaFX has been coming up with newer releases every few months. However, like Java, JavaFX 2 (1.2) is expected to be a big success as compared to the previous releases.

That said, there have been some changes in JavaFX1.2 that are not backward compatible that would cause some of the applications to be re-written to some extent.

Some of the big changes are:

  • New Layouts,
  • new UI Controls - this is a big addition. UI Controls (widgets) were totally missing.
  • Charts
  • Alerts
  • Skin class has been totally revampe.

Alerts and the UI controls have been my favorites that were dearly missing in previous releases of JavaFX.

There’s a great article over at InformIT by Jim Clarke, a JavaFX engineer at Sun, about what’s new in JavaFX 1.2.

JavaFX1.2 was released on June 02, 2009. It is touted to have a lot of performance improvements as compared to JavaFX1.1.

After exploring eval versions of JavaFX1.2, I found that a lot has changed in 1.2. Specifically, the Skin and Themes support is almost re-written. There have been many other changes too. Inyoung, a JavaFX consultant at Sun has nicely captured most of the changes in her blog at http://javafx.com.

KSPTech, Inc. is highly excited to share that one of their JavaFX based project was announced on June 03, during JavaOne, 2009.

Indaba Music, a community and suite of online tools for musicians, announced a platform-agnostic, online interface that allows users to record music “directly to the Internet.” And the band Weezer is excited enough about it that they’re giving their official endorsement.

We take the pride in  sharing that over 90% of Indaba's next generation User Interface was developed by KSPTech using JavaFX 1.1. The user interface enables amateur and professional musicians such as Weezer to record high-quality audio directly to the internet, access advanced mixing, editing and looping tools as well as drag the software from the browser to the desktop with a single click.

As per many of Sun's JavaFX engineers, the work by KSPTech for Indaba has been the first "Real" JavaFX application todate. We really take the compliment to our heart

Thank you Indaba for giving us an opportunity to create such a complex and exciting application.
